Analysis of Music Therapy Research Trends Related to COVID-19 in Korea : Scoping Review
Hwang Eun-Young
Abstract
This study examines the trend of music therapy research related to COVID-19 in Korea during the pandemic period, copes with new changes in music therapy through the research results, and proposes future directions thereafter. In particular, in a situation where quantitative research has not been sufficiently conducted, the scoping review method was applied to exploratory research. To this, studies published in Korea from 2020 to the first half of 2022, when COVID-19 occurred, were targeted, and a total of 23 studies were selected. Twenty-three studies were analyzed according to the phases of scoping review. The results of the study are as follows. First, among the 23 studies, 3 experimental studies, 16 descriptive studies including literature review studies, and 4 qualitative studies were selected, showing a tendency to gradually increase. Second, experimental studies were conducted targeting vulnerable population in the pandemic situation, such as children with disability, job seekers in 20s, and COVID-19 self-isolation. Third, as a result of analyzing the research by content, it can be divided into the clinical status of music therapy, the use of music for emotional regulation, and the perception of tele-music therapy. As a result of this study, music therapists experienced difficulties in adapting to change, but through these difficulties, it became an opportunity to grow further.
